Social & Emotional Learning (SEL)
Rosary Academy creates a safe, caring, empathetic environment where we believe in each other, respect diversity, communicate openly, grow together and hold each other to high expectations to become the leaders and innovators of the future. Effective social-emotional learning (SEL) is a transformative and evidence-based educational process that teaches children the mental skills that will develop fundamental skills for life, significantly reduce emotional stresses that lead to violence and addiction, improve problem-solving skills, enhance empathy, raise academic test scores and increase resiliency. SEL teaches the skills we all need to handle ourselves, our relationships, and our work effectively and ethically. These skills include:
- recognizing and managing our emotions,
- developing caring and concern for others,
- establishing positive relationships,
- making responsible decisions, and
- handling challenging situations constructively and ethically.
We are committed to supporting the social emotional needs of our students and families during distance learning. If your student is feeling isolated and withdrawn during this time of social distancing, anxious about the health of loved ones, or stressed by the disruption in their daily routine, they may benefit from speaking to:
Caroline Tran Ryan, Director of Social Emotional Learning and Personal Counselor.
